A very Jungle Book Christmas Baby

Yes It looks like Vik will give birth to a human baby any day now. I am checking the sky's for a stork hoping that this is really how it happens and the birth pool is just a place to keep the storks favorite food safe - like frogs and insects and apparently small mammals. But I know that the scans have shown a very human mammal wriggling inside Vik tum and the pronounce bump was hard to miss.

Have a Happy Christmas everyone and see you on the other side of the new year.

Fungus

Vik and I walked around our garden today in the short hours that I wasn't working. All I can say is that fungus was found, amazing colourful weird alien fungus. A great day.

Horse

On the way to the train station I walk passed a field with this amazing horse in it. Early morning light streaming accros the Cumbrian hills nearly blinded me, a nice moment of reflection as I stood still becoming a human tripod letting the image pass in front of me and the camera.

Brief Encounters with my camera

For those of you wondering what I am doing at the moment below is a short outline of a up and coming project called 'Points of Reference' apart from that I am working madly on various projects with young people all around the (Cumbrian) county. I will update shortly with news as soon as my new Laptop arrives :-).

Please join the flickr group! and add your images.

POINTS OF REFERENCE

An onboard and online collective photography workshop. Help create a series of black and white mosaic portraits of passengers using an image bank of landscape photography all taken from the windows of trains and at stations. The artist will be travelling around the Bay throughout the festival engaging and enlisting members of the public to participate in the project. Don’t forget to take your camera or cameraphone on your next walk or train journey and get snapping!

Find out how you can contribute your pictures of the coast and countryside and see the results of his activities at www.flickr.com/groups/points-of-reference

The Road to Whitehaven

Vik and I go over the top of the Wrynose and Hardknot passes that lead to Whitehaven. The last invasion of the British Mainland occurred in Whitehaven in 1778 when John Paul Jones, father of the American Navy, invaded the port

http://www.rediscoverwhitehaven.com/interesting-facts.htm

An other interesting fact is that Viks grandfather used to open the gates for the landed gentry in this area, before having to relocate the family to London docks when the mines shut down.

Forensic

This is a little experiment I did yesterday. Not feeling much like going out in the cold weather, I decided to see what I could create using text from a recent poem, found vlog clips from the commonpeople trashcan and an hour or exploring garageband. I have long been fascinated by the relationship between poetry and film, and I am quite pleased with this initial creation. Plus, usually I have Adam on hand for technical guidance but this time, I tried it out solo. Which seeing as my techie-ness goes about as far as a pen and paper, was a challenge in having the confidence in simply letting myself explore, make and play. Hope you enjoy the result.

Climate Change Explorer - Plasticine Opinions

The Climate Change debate got really heated during my residency at Dowdales, with different media messages about the causes of global warming - some say it is all our faults for relying on carbon based fuels and then others tell us that it is because of natural events, such as solar flares and volcanoes. I decided that because this was the Climate Change EXPLORER project, I would do just that and explore the opinions of climate change held by the young people involved.

Plasticine Opinions is a series of collaborative films made with Year 9 students from Dowdales School during the project. The students made Plasticine avatars and gave an opinion about climate change in their own words.

Climate Change Explorer - Rabbits are Winners

Rabbits at Moor House in Upper Teesdale are increasing in number - we believe because of climate change ... Some animals are winners and some are losers when the climate changes. Rabbits are Winners.

This was a collaborative film made with the students of Dowdales School during the Climate Change Explorer Project.

Climate Change Explorer - Paul Rose Interview

My usual videoblogging has taken second place since February this year, as I have been working as the Artist in Residence on a project called Climate Change Explorer.

I am now reaching the end of this part of the residency. Through it, I have had the privilege of working in a fantastic school here in the North West of England called Dowdales and with the scientists at the Environmental Change Network at Lancaster University.

Over the last few months, I have made many videos in collaboration with young people and professionals in the field of climate change. One by one I will be posting them here.

To introduce the project, I am starting the series with An Interview with Paul Rose International Explorer, Expedition Leader, Fieldwork Expert,  Speaker and BBC TV Presenter.

I hope you will join me for the exploration!

Alien lunch

I have been very busy with work and as a nice break and to celebrate my Dads 65th birthday the family traveled to France and also had a day trip to Belgium. After the buying of fags and chocolate we looked for somewhere to eat and found this charming restaurant. I  always tell people to carry a camera where ever they go, because sometimes you need to record the strange and unusual things that just pop up out of the mundane.

The Patti Smith Mpg's

Rough and ready unique footage of Patti Smith's first unofficial gig on her UK tour. The night before her tour started, she was booked to give a poetry reading at the Women's International Arts Festival in Kendal, but, being Patti Smith, she decided to treat us to a poetry and acoustic set with her band. An intimate setting (we were literally 2 ft away) with extraordinary stuff from and extraordinary woman....

Land of Cars

While in OZ one of my cousin insisted I experienced my first and quite possibly only Motor Car show, what followed was lung full's of burnt rubber and a sunburnt neck. My simple Pommie brain being starved of air turned unnaturally to thoughts of the environment and climate change.
